Greg Gania is a native of Warren, Ohio and has spent the past 19 years as a resident of Erie, PA. His 22-year career in Minor League Baseball has provided him with a unique outlook and ability to paint pictures and stories throughout his broadcasts.
Greg is currently the Assistant General Manager and lead broadcaster of the Erie SeaWolves, the Double-A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. In this role, he handles lead play-by-play duties for all Erie SeaWolves games and serves as the official team spokesman in television, radio and newspaper interviews.
Greg made his Major League broadcasting debut with the Detroit Tigers on September 8, 2018, filling in as lead play-by-play broadcaster for Dan Dickerson. He subsequently filled in on several Tigers Spring Training and regular season games until 2023.
In 2024, Greg was named to the Detroit Tigers broadcast team, serving as lead play-by-play radio broadcaster for select games on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network.
Greg’s off-air duties include leading the SeaWolves public relations and media relations efforts, maintaining the team website, managing all team social media accounts, assisting in graphic design projects, assisting in all team marketing efforts, overseeing baseball operations, coordinating team travel as well as other behind-the-scenes tasks. His public relations efforts have led to several team awards by the Northwest Pennsylvania chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Greg was named to Erie's 40 under 40 class of 2022. He was also named the PRSA-NWPA PR Person of the Year in 2024.
Greg joined the SeaWolves in March of 2006, holding the role as team broadcaster. In 2011 he was promoted to Assistant General Manager and has been on the executive staff of the club ever since. Prior to joining the Erie club, Greg served as the lead broadcaster of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers for three seasons (2003-05).
Greg is an alumnus of Bowling Green State University, having graduated with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. During his time at BGSU, he was involved in the Bowling Green Radio Sports Organization, broadcasting football, men’s & women’s basketball and baseball games. The organization is known for broadcasting more games than any other college radio station in the nation. He also served as home public address announcer for the women’s basketball team for two seasons.
In his free time, Greg enjoys spending time with his wife Meagan and his family. He enjoys playing golf, watching sports (he never misses a Miami Dolphins game), traveling both domestically and abroad, Jimmy Buffett music and live concerts. Coming from a large Greek family, Greg developed a passion for cooking at a young age and you can most often find him in the kitchen during the off-season tinkering with recipes and making new creations.
